Advancing health equity is a critical part of any public health framework. Gaining a better understanding on how racism and discrimination are root causes of health disparities through a historical perspective allows organizations to make better policy and programmatic decisions. Dismantling systems of oppression requires consistent learning, assessment, and collective support.

Dr. Bass supports organizations develop health equity frameworks with an understanding of the social, economic, environmental, and cultural determinants and drivers of health. Tanya has been working to increase cultural consciousness and reduce health disparities for more than 20 years. She has provided technical assistance and support to state and local governments and communities by using the CLAS standards to reach the underserved and marginalized.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS:

In addition to sharing important material in an easy to understand way, I very much appreciate everything you did to ensure our group felt safe and to acknowledge everyone’s feelings. I not only learned about DEI, but I also learned something about facilitating a group discussing a difficult topic. I also wanted to say that a phrase you used several times, giving grace, struck home for me. Because of my privilege, I will most often be the one receiving grace. I have to learn to receive it well, and recognize what a gift it is!

The session today was wonderful! I learned so much from you — the concepts of cultural consciousness and cultural humility have stuck with me. I also really appreciated the audience engagement opportunities, as they caused me to pause and reflect on my initial reactions and biases. I am walking away with a curiosity to learn more, and from what I learned in the session today, I have some strategies to be better in how I work with students, staff, and faculty. Thank you so very much!!
