Dr. Tanya Bass has been working in the profession of sexuality education for several years. Dr. Bass is passionate about teaching sexuality to professionals and community members. She hopes to be a catalyst for other professionals to increase their comfort and capability in providing sexuality education. Her goal is to provide culturally responsive and sex-positive professional development opportunities.

While maintaining an inclusive worldview, her work is shaped by her experience as a Black woman navigating systemic oppression. She has assisted in developing strategies to foster and facilitate the development of cultural and gender-appropriate services in areas such as sexual health including HIV and sexually transmitted diseases prevention, pleasure, adolescent sexual health, and reproductive health.

Dr. Bass founded the North Carolina Sexual Health Conference as one mechanism to bring professionals across disciplines together in professional learning environment. She also offers a range of trainings on various topics including Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) trainings.

THE PRIMARY GOALS FOR PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SAR SEMINARS ARE:

  • To increase understanding of the wide spectrum of human sexual behaviors, identities, and orientations (being mindful of diversity, equity and inclusion), followed by the opportunity to identify their attitudes, values, feelings and beliefs regarding these behaviors including topics of comfort and discomfort.
  • To increase comfort when addressing and discussing a wide range of sexual topics encountered by the clinical or education professional.
  • To promote non-judgmental and respectful attitudes toward others whose attitudes, values, feelings, beliefs, and sexual behaviors differ from those of the SAR participant.

Please contact Dr. Bass if you are interested in a SAR or other sexuality related trainings and workshops.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS:

I am still processing some of the experiences and feelings from the SAR content. It challenged a lot of assumptions and practices that I have long held around sexual behavior for myself and others. It has made me rethink how we teach or do we teach others, including our own children about their own sexuality in a way that is healthy for future relationships.

Fantastic balance of wanting to have the participants do most of the talking but offering guidance/direction and examples as needed. The perfect facilitators for a program like this.

This was a terrific course! There was a great balance of presenting information, showing videos, listening to guest panelists and small group discussions. The group discussions helped to process the information and to learn from peers as well as the presenters. This was a very effective format even if if it was virtual!

It was over too soon! I usually have screen fatigue when attending virtual trainings and conferences, but not in this case! I was left wanting more! I strongly recommend it for sexuality educators of those who work in other areas of human sexuality, reproductive health, family planning and related fields!
